Netflix Is Stopping Me From Being Great
I have a confession to make. I do not have cable, no offense to those that do. I personally just got tired of giving $200.00 to my cable company, half of that was just taxes alone.
I decided to just keep my internet and get Netflix. Man oh man. I was like a kid in a candy store when I first got it. I got to watch all my favorite shows anytime I wanted.
I mean I would pick a show that would have 6 seasons or more and made it my mission to watch every episode. I think they call it binge watching. Well, I was a binge watcher and proud.
After a while, I noticed that I did not have a lot of time in my day to work on my business. I could not think of any articles to write. I was not making any videos for my YouTube channel.
Somehow it seemed as if my motivation was gone. I just could not figure out what was wrong with me. I decided that I needed to account for all my time. I used to work as a security guard when I first got out of the military.
One of the things that we had to do was keep a worksheet of our activities. We documented everything we did for every hour. All 8 hours were accounted for on that worksheet.
I decided that I would do a worksheet for every day for one week. I carried that worksheet for 7 straight days and documented everything I did for every hour of my day. My results were astonishing to me.
Did you know that I averaged watching 4 to 5 hours of Netflix during the week. I averaged more hours on the weekend. I could not believe it. I was averaging over 25 hours a week watching Netflix. This could not be my life!
Clearly something had to change. Netflix was not bringing any income in my life. Matter of fact, it was actually stopping me from making income. Do not get me wrong, I am not here to bash Netflix.
It is actually a great service. The problem was not with Netflix, it was with how I was spending my time. I want to be great, but I cannot be great watching over 25 hours of Netflix a week. To those that do, no judgments from me.
I am just sharing my experience with you all. I cut back on all those hours of watching Netflix and used that time to work on my craft.
If you are like me and believe that your are destined for more in your life, then you have to put in the work. I challenge you to do a worksheet for 7 days and see how your time is spent.
The results may surprise you. Netflix took up a lot of time in my life. Facebook, SnapChat, or Instagram may be taking up time in yours. If you are content with where you are in life, then no need to account for your time.
If you are motivated for more in life, then now is the time to take a good look at how you are spending your time.
